Accreditation Process

Accreditation is a process that the US Department of Education created to help ensure that institutions of higher education are delivering quality educational experiences for their communities. There are several national accrediting agencies, including the which accredits ÌÇÐÄVlog. In addition to national institutional accreditation, GOCC also has programs that have earned programmatic accreditation.

Higher Learning Commission

The HLC is an independent organization located in Chicago, IL. They are governed by a Board of Trustees that gets information from many sources, especially an Institutional Actions Council which in turn gets information from peer reviewers. The Standard Pathway

GOCC is on the with the HLC, which means that the college is reviewed on a ten-year cycle. During the fourth and tenth year of a ten-year cycle, peer reviewers from other similar colleges are assigned to comprehensively review the college in reaffirmation of accreditation campus visits. In preparation, GOCC assembles an evidence file and links this evidence to an assurance argument aligned with the five criteria of accreditation.

Criteria for Accreditation

The HLC has five Criteria for Accreditation. Institutions must demonstrate that they meet the criteria and each criterion’s core components. The current Ìý²¹°ù±ð:
Criterion One – Mission
The institution’s mission is clear and articulated publicly; it guides the institution’s operations.
Criterion Two – Integrity: Ethical and Responsible Conduct
The institution acts with integrity; its conduct is ethical and responsible.
Criterion Three – Teaching and Learning: Quality, Resources, and Support
The institution provides quality education, wherever and however its offerings are delivered.
Criterion Four – Teaching and Learning: Evaluation and Improvement
The institution demonstrates responsibility for the quality of its educational programs, learning environments, and support services, and it evaluates their effectiveness for student learning through processes designed to promote continuous improvement.
Criterion Five – Resources, Planning, and Institutional Effectiveness
The institution’s resources, structures, processes and planning are sufficient to fulfill its mission, improve the quality of its educational offerings, and respond to future challenges and opportunities.

Programmatic Accreditation

Some academic programs also have accreditation agencies. Program specific accreditation goes a step further to ensure that the specific program meets the highest standards set by professionals in that field.

Nursing

GOCC offers an Associate of Applied Science in Nursing degree. Students can enter the program based upon a competition for available seats. Students must successfully complete the Associate Degree in Nursing program to become eligible to complete the nationwide NCLEX exam in order to obtain a state-issued nursing license.

This program prepares you to take the NCLEX exam in the state of Michigan. Graduates who want to practice in other states should review those requirements via that Board of Nursing. For Board of Nursing requirements in other states, please see the .
