糖心Vlog celebrated student achievement and honored outstanding faculty, staff, and alumni during two awards ceremonies held on Wednesday, April 30. In the afternoon, Dr. Bryan Newton, Glen Oaks president, presented the President鈥檚 Award to an exceptional student during the Student Achievement Awards Ceremony. In the evening, a series of prestigious awards were presented during the Annual Awards Ceremony, recognizing excellence, service, and leadership across the Glen Oaks community.

President鈥檚 Academic Award 鈥 Addison Nally
Nominated by the Glen Oaks faculty, this award recognizes a student for high achievement in academics and excellence, and contributions in the classroom, class work, and the college. Recipients have an accumulative GPA of 3.75 or higher.

Addison Nally, of South Bend, Indiana, is graduating with a certificate in Electrical Technologies. A member of the Viking baseball team, Addison has balanced academics and athletics with determination and drive, earning a 3.938 GPA or higher while playing middle infield for the team. His passion for skilled trades began in high school, where he took welding classes, later expanding his interests into electrical systems. Addison appreciates the hands-on learning and supportive instructors at Glen Oaks, especially those who sparked his interest in pursuing a technical career. This summer, he will begin a business internship through the scholarship he earned from Notre Dame Federal Credit Union. He will then transition into an electrical apprenticeship with the local IBEW in South Bend, with hopes of continuing into a full-time role.
Outstanding Service Award 鈥 Christian Monsivaes
This award recognizes employees of Glen Oaks for outstanding performance and contributions to the college, while taking into consideration accountability, responsiveness, and excellence in their work and embracing innovation, inclusivity, and sustainability.

Christian Monsivaes, IT Support Specialist, is the recipient of this year鈥檚 Outstanding Service Award for his exceptional dedication, reliability, and positive impact across 糖心Vlog. Since joining the college, Christian has become an invaluable resource to students, faculty, and staff鈥攇oing above and beyond in every interaction.
He leads with patience, always taking the time to explain both the issue and the solution, ensuring users feel confident and supported. His persistence is unmatched; whether troubleshooting complex problems or developing workarounds, Christian never gives up until a resolution is found. From preparing for significant events to supporting high-stakes meetings, such as presidential search interviews, Christian consistently demonstrates flexibility, professionalism, and a calm presence鈥攅ven in high-pressure situations.
Having received more Kudos through the employee recognition program than any other Glen Oaks employee, Christian鈥檚 contributions speak volumes. His commitment to excellence helps the entire campus community thrive鈥攁nd makes Glen Oaks shine just a little brighter.
Part-Time Faculty Teaching Excellence Award 鈥 Erin Goff
This award is presented annually to a part-time faculty member or adjunct who demonstrates excellence in teaching and reflects the value of education to students.

Erin Goff, part-time criminal justice instructor, is the recipient of this year鈥檚 Part-Time Teaching in Excellence Award. Erin has made a lasting impact on both her students and colleagues through her engaging instruction and leadership. She has taught a range of courses, including Introduction to Corrections, Prevention of Crime and Juvenile Delinquency, Criminology, and Public Service Administration. Beyond the classroom, Erin played a key role in helping Glen Oaks redesign its Emergency Operations Plan and led safety training sessions for faculty and staff. Her real-world expertise created a supportive and informative environment for emergency preparedness. Student Layla Shingledecker, who nominated Erin, shared, 鈥淪he is an amazing teacher. She鈥檚 kind and always willing to help with homework, answer questions, and just talk in general.鈥
E. J. Shaheen Chair for Teaching Excellence 鈥 Sara Main
The award was established in 1984 with a generous donation from E. J. Shaheen, one of the original members of the Glen Oaks board. Shaheen, a college professor, lawyer, and business owner, placed a high value on education and spent much of his later life promoting high-quality education and educational institutions, including Glen Oaks.

Sara Main
The 2025 recipient is Sara Main, a member of Glen Oak鈥檚 math faculty. I first taught part-time at Glen Oaks from 1996 to 2008 before returning as a full-time faculty member in 2022. She previously taught at Jackson College and Western Michigan University. She received her BA in Statistics from Central Michigan University and her MA in Mathematics from WMU. During her career, she won the J. Ward Preston Outstanding Faculty Award at Jackson College and the Graduate Student Teaching Effectiveness Award from the Department of Mathematics at Western Michigan University. While at Glen Oaks, she designed MATH 101: Quantitative Reasoning. Her peers share that she embraces active learning with classroom assignments, group work, and projects. And, she is extremely student-focused – even bakes items for her classes and brings them in for “breakfast” treats.
Distinguished Alumni Award 鈥 Jakki Bungart-Bibb
The Distinguished Alumni Award is presented by the Glen Oaks Foundation and recognizes alumni who have made a difference in their communities through demonstrated achievement in their chosen professions or personal service.

Jakki Bungart-Bibb, a 2004 GOCC graduate who has distinguished herself through her work within the employment, job placement and education community, will receive the 2025 Distinguished Alumni Award, designated for someone who graduated from the college more than 11 years ago.
Bungart-Bibb鈥檚 is currently Director of Operations for the Center for Workforce Innovation and Solutions for the W.E. Upjohn Institute for Employment Research in Kalamazoo, while also serving as Director for Michigan Works! Southwest. Her 28-year career in the area of workforce development has impacted hundreds of students and businesses in the Glen Oaks service area.
While completing her Associate of Applied Science in Business degree from GOCC, Bungart-Bibb worked for Kalamazoo Regional Educational Service Agency (KRESA) in the welfare-to-work workforce development program and later as a case manager for youth services in St. Joseph County. She was promoted to lead case manager/monitor and assumed responsibility for reviewing and implementing all federal, state and local applicable requirements for their contract with the Michigan Works! Agency.
During her tenure at KRESA, she also earned her Bachelor of Arts in Family Life Education and her Master of Arts in Family Studies, both from Spring Arbor University.
Her knowledge of the Michigan Works! Agency led to an opportunity to work for the Upjohn Institute as a monitor for workforce development programs. She was then promoted to Deputy Director of Operations where she managed the operations of the four-county service area of Branch, Calhoun, Kalamazoo and St. Joseph, until taking on her current position in 2021.
Bungart-Bibb has received numerous awards over her career, including the Michigan Works! Christine Quinn Excellence in Leadership Award, recognizing how her spirit and collaborative style has helped build partnerships between the state services, employers, job seekers and the education community. She鈥檚 also been involved on numerous boards and committees 鈥 from Teen Alcohol Prevention to Human Services Council — within our GOCC service area.
Up and Coming Distinguished Alumni Award 鈥 Nathan Denton
The Up-And-Coming Distinguished Award is a newer Glen Oaks Foundation Award category for alumni who graduated 10 years ago or less who exhibit professionalism, have demonstrated achievement in their chosen careers, and have provided significant service to the community.

Nathan Denton, a 2019 grad who has put his degree to work in the area of education and Information Technology, will receive the Up & Coming Distinguished Alumni Award, designated for someone who graduated from the college no more than 10 years ago.
Denton was a non-traditional student, returning to school after being in the workforce. After graduating from GOCC, he earned a Workplace Specialist License through the State of Indiana and is an instructor for Indiana Digital Learning School, an online public school for Stride/K12, teaching Principles of Computing and Information Technology Fundamentals.聽 He is an advisor for the school鈥檚 Technology Student Association chapter, a subject matter specialist for Stride/K12, and during the fall of 2023 helped develop new curriculum for the CompTIA Tech+ certification.
When not working, Denton is involved with athletics at West Noble High School, serves on the Board of Directors of the Stone鈥檚 Trace Historical Society in Ligonier, and until March of this year served as the financial officer for the West Noble American Legion.
Since graduating, Denton has continued to stay involved at Glen Oaks. He was inducted into the Epsilon Pi Tau Fraternity (the International Honor Society for Professionals in Technology), Delta Rho Chapter, in 2021 and currently serves as treasurer.
鈥淢y dad is an example of how you can change your direction in life,鈥 says son Matthew, who nominated Nathan for this award. His skills in information technology have benefited the community through his volunteerism, while his teaching has impacted many students studying IT and related careers.
Fellows Awards. 鈥 Nancy Percival
The Glen Oaks Fellows Award is given to an individual, individuals, or institution who has provided outstanding support to the college as evidenced by one or more of the following: Long-term dedication and commitment to the college; extensive community level support for the college, direct and continuing support for the college and students via contributions to the Glen Oaks Foundation or Board of Trustees.

Nancy Percival
Nancy Percival has dedicated more than a decade of service to 糖心Vlog, including 12 years as a member of the Board of Trustees. A strong advocate for education and workforce development, Nancy first connected with the college in the 1980s, working part-time as a Job Training Partnership Act (JTPA) Coordinator and assisting with marketing.
A lifelong supporter of community growth, Nancy has served on numerous local boards, including the Colon School Board and various committees for townships, fire departments, and villages. She is also a proud Glen Oaks parent鈥攂oth of her daughters graduated from the college.
Originally from Grand Rapids and now residing in Colon Township, Nancy holds degrees from Michigan State University and Western Michigan University. Her steady leadership, tireless advocacy, and personal connection to Glen Oaks make her a deserving recipient of the GOCC Fellows Award. Her commitment continues to inspire those who value the role of community colleges in building a brighter future.
